Alessandro Porotto

About

Alessandro Porotto is Postdoctoral Fellow at the Faculty of Architecture and Built Environment of Delft University of Technology, Netherlands. He was Postdoctoral Research Associate at UCLouvain, Belgium (August 2020-January 2022) and Visiting Postdoctoral Researcher at Art History Department of Emory University, USA (Spring 2020 semester). MISSION His mission is to develop scientific research and new critical instruments for typo-morphology studies dealing with urban history and theory. He conducts studies characterized by a comparative methodology, aimed at critically observing the heritage of urban housing in relation to the dynamics of the contemporary city. He also stress this approach through several teaching activities. CURRENT WORK His current postdoctoral research "21st Century Urban Block: Hybridization and Sustainability" focuses on forms of housing defining new hybrid urban housing in Amsterdam. PhD His dissertation, supervised by Prof. Luca Ortelli and Dr. Elena Cogato Lanza at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland, focused on collective housing projects built in Vienna and Frankfurt during the Interwar period. Adopting a comparative approach, the analysis criteria concerned density, relationship between urban morphology and typology, collective spaces, and architectural language. PUBLICATIONS He is the author of the monograph "L'intelligence des formes: Le projet de logements collectifs à Vienne et Francfort". Regularly, he publishes articles in peer-reviewed journals, chapter books, proceedings and he participates in international conferences.
