About
Biljana graduated from the Department of Comparative Literature and Librarianship at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina). The topic of her thesis was the Library of the Jewish Community in Sarajevo. Biljana got a job as a librarian at the Clinic for Children's Diseases in Sarajevo, where she lived and worked until the beginning of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992. As a librarian, she worked in two academic institutions in Belgrade - the Institute of Social Sciences and the Institute of Philosophy and Social Theory. Since 2016 Biljana has worked as a Library consultant (bibliographer) at the Bibliographical Department of the National Library of Serbia. Her personal and professional interest refers to the research of the cultural heritage of the Jewish national minority in Serbia. After completing the training for archivists and librarians from Serbia, which was organized at the International School for Holocaust Studies in Yad Vashem in 2017, her current and future interests include introducing librarians from Serbia to the basics of Yad Vashem's educational philosophy and Jewish heritage and recognizing the personal and institutional potential in creating and implementing various programs based on library materials and local history. Biljana is one of the founders of the Jewish Digital Library (JDL) and administrator of the Repository with the same name. The Jewish Digital Library is a non-governmental and non-profit association founded to collect, present, promote and preserve the general Jewish religious and world heritage, culture, literature, history, and language, and especially to promote various library materials and literature about the Holocaust (http://jevrejskadigitalnabiblioteka.rs/). Biljana won the second prize at the 59th Prize Competition for works with a Jewish theme given by the Federation of Jewish Communities of Serbia for the work “An Overview of Jewish Periodicals in Serbia (from 1888 to 2015)” and the State Award of Israel Yitzhak Navon - Ladino Knight for the year 2022, for "extraordinary contribution to the preservation, dissemination of, and scholarship on Yugoslavian Jewish heritage via the launching and continuous enrichment of the Jewish Digital Library". Biljana has published six books and more professional texts in magazines and collections of papers.
