Giovanni Gosch Berton

Final-year medical student at the University of Passo Fundo (UPF), Brazil. Completed an exchange in the Single-Cycle Master’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Padua (Italy). My work spans translational neuroscience and connective-tissue genetics. I lead a tri-national thesis (UPF–University of Padua–University of Cologne) characterizing a COL12A1-related connective-tissue disorder, using human fibroblast culture, ICC/IF, RNA/protein extraction, RT-qPCR, Western blot, and R-based genomic/statistical analysis. Clinical training at Padua University Hospital and neurology electives at Oxford University Hospitals and Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (Dublin). Visiting student in Prof. Gabriele De Luca’s Neuropathology Lab (University of Oxford; multiple sclerosis), where I authored a brain-health outreach SOP (supervision: Dr. Gina Hadley). Earlier work includes a scholarship in the Comsaúde community-health project and a zebrafish studentship (Prof. L. J. G. Barcellos). Invited by Batterjee Medical College (Saudi Arabia) to support Brazilian data collection for a multinational study on SARS-CoV-2 vaccine decision-making. Outputs include peer-reviewed publications and e-book chapters, with abstracts presented at ECNP, EAN, AAN, and ACC. Service: peer reviewer for Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy, Scientia Medica, and the Brazilian Medical Students Journal; contributor to European Academy of Neurology scientific panels; Cochrane supporter. Additional output: NeuroSemio, a serious game for neurological semiology (INPI BR512024000812-8). Interests: genomics, neurodegeneration, and extracellular-matrix/collagen biology.
