Dr Jessica Stroja is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Social and Cultural Research, Griffith University. She is a recipient of the 2022 Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research Fellowships and was also a 2021 Australian Historical Association-Copyright Agency Early Career Researcher Mentor Scheme recipient. Jessica received the Award for Excellence in a Research Thesis and the Chancellor’s Medal for Excellence in the PhD Thesis for her contribution to knowledge, significance of her research and research excellence in developing an understanding of the ways the legacy and memory of violence continue to influence post-Second World War refugees into the present day. After receiving her PhD, Jessica subsequently undertook inter-disciplinary professional development, receiving the Master of Business (Public Relations) (With Distinction; Faculty of Business and Law Dean’s Award for Excellence). Jessica’s recent research focuses on the role of faith-based organisations in the care and advocacy for refugees in Australia during the twentieth century. She also maintains a strong interest in museums, local history and their relevance within the surrounding landscape. Her book, ‘Displaced Persons, Resettlement and the Legacies of War’, was published by Routledge in June 2022.
