Refinery DCS/Remote I/O Cabinet Cooling – Develop Concept Design (Instrument Air/Vortex)
Location: []
We need an engineering contractor/freelancer to develop a concept-level design basis for a refinery-wide distributed cabinet cooling system for DCS / Remote I/O cabinets. Project Overview ~200+ control / remote I/O cabinets distributed across a ~20-acre refinery complex - We are targeting an instrument-air-based cabinet cooling approach (e.g., EXAIR Cabinet Cooler / vortex tube or approved equal) - Cooling medium must be dry, dehumidified air to maintain a relatively stable cabinet internal temperature band and avoid condensation What we need from you (deliverables) - Design Basis / Engineering Approach including: - Cabinet inventory template + survey plan (tag, location, NEMA/IP, dimensions, photos, heat load inputs) - Heat load calculation approach and cabinet “classes” (if needed) - Cabinet cooler selection methodology and a Cabinet Cooler Schedule (capacity, SCFM, pressure, thermostat/setpoint, accessories) - Instrument air consumption model (per cabinet and total site; normal vs worst case) - Point-of-use air prep recommendations (filter/separator/regulator) and air quality requirements (dry/dehumidified) - Typical installation details (knockout/mounting, tubing, isolation valves, exhaust/noise considerations) - Commissioning + performance/acceptance test plan (temperature band verification, no-condensation verification) Optional (nice-to-have): recommendations for a pilot phase (5–10 cabinets) to validate performance and air use before full rollout Preferred experience - Refinery / petrochemical / industrial controls environment - DCS / remote I/O cabinets, enclosure cooling, NEMA/IP considerations - Instrument air / compressed air systems, air quality/dew point considerations - Understanding of hazardous area / industrial installation practices is a plus What we will provide - Site context, cabinet counts and locations (as available), and instrument air header information (pressure/dryer type/dew point) as available - Any existing standards/specs we want you to align to To respond, please include - Relevant project examples (cabinet cooling, instrument air systems, refinery/industrial controls) - Your proposed approach and list of deliverables - Estimated hours and schedule assumptions (and what inputs you need from us to finalize)
