Kneu is live with the NHS, Cedars-Sinai, and Mass General Brigham, and is scaling across the UK and US with proven outcomes and growing demand.The RoleAs a Backend Engineer, you’ll build the secure, scalable systems that power Kneu’s products. You’ll work on services and infrastructure that clinicians rely on for decision-making, enable patients to access impactful tools day to day, and support data science workflows that unlock new insights for research and care.What You’ll Be Doing Build and maintain backend services that are secure, reliable, and scalable Design and develop REST APIs for mobile and/or web applications Contribute to distributed systems and microservice architectures Support database design (SQL) and backend architecture decisions Improve release processes and deployment workflows Collaborate closely with engineering and data teams to deliver high-quality outcomes 2+ years backend engineering commercial experience1+ year commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIsFamiliarity with microservices and distributed systemsSolid understanding of SQL databases, backend architecture, and release processesInterest in growing DevOps capability (e.g., Terraform, CI/CD, AWS deployments)Applicants must have the right to work in the UKWe are unable to offer sponsorship and/or a visa for this positionNice to Have (Bonus)Experience with Python (scripting, automation, data workflows, lightweight services) Interest in expanding into adjacent areas over time (e.g., collaborating with mobile engineers, potential exposure to Android/iOS) What We’re Looking For (Ways of Working) Purpose-driven mindset and motivation to improve lives for people with neurodegenerative conditions Strong ownership, curiosity, and a collaborative approach Practical problem-solving and good judgment on technical trade-offs Clear communication and openness to feedback in a startup environment Willingness to learn and contribute outside your comfort zone when needed Salary: £60,000 per yearAnnual leave: 25 days paid annual leave + public holidays, with the option to buy and sell holidays Hybrid working: Spend 1-2 days a week with your team in our collaborative Central London officeAnnual training & development budget: Dedicated budget each year for courses, certifications, conferences, workshops, books, and learning resources to help you grow in your role.Equipment provided: MacBook Pro
