About
Dr. Margarita Zamora-Saá is a Ph.D. holder (Dottore di Ricerca) in Industrial and Environmental Hygiene from the Università degli Studi di Roma, La Sapienza, Italy. She is an Environmental Engineer with specialization in Occupational Risk Prevention and Occupational Health. Dr. Zamora-Saá currently serves as a faculty member at the Fundación Instituto Profesional Duoc Universidad Católica de Chile (DUOC UC) in Santiago. She teaches courses on occupational risk management in the Risk Prevention Engineering program. Her academic involvement extends to postgraduate education, where she has lectured and supervised theses in Occupational Health and Safety programs at Universidad Andrés Bello, Universidad de las Américas, and Universidad de Santiago de Chile (USACH). Her research activity focuses on Occupational Health and Toxicology, particularly on the identification and analysis of occupational risk factors responsible for professional diseases. Her work emphasizes exposure to chemical contaminants, hypobaric environments, and ergonomic and psychosocial hazards. Dr. Zamora-Saá has published scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus. She has presented her research at national and international conferences in Chile, Spain, and Italy, including invited talks and academic sessions at prestigious institutions such as the Faculty of Medicine at the Università Degli Studi di Cagliari, the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences at the Università degli Studi di Roma, the Turin Hospital–Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Città della Salute e della Scienza di Torino, the Istituto Superiore della Sanità in Italy, and the Instituto Nacional de Seguridad e Higiene del Trabajo in Barcelona, Spain. In 2017, her paper “Trabajo en altura: turno noche o de día como posible factor diferencial potenciador de la condición de riesgo del trabajo a baja presión atmosférica” received the award for Best Paper in the category of “Occupational Health and Risk Prevention” at the Congress organized by the Sociedad Castellana de Medicina y Seguridad en el Trabajo, in Madrid. In 2024, her study “Trastornos musculoesqueléticos y edad en auxiliares de aseo clínico” won the International Category Award (SESST 2024) at the Congress of the Sociedad Española de Salud y Seguridad en el Trabajo. She is also a contributing author to the International Pneumoconiosis Treaty for the Americas, through her chapter titled "Exposición a sílice de mineros en altitud. Fundamentación del método de la 'Dosis inhalada' para estimar la exposición en condición de hipobaria sumada a turnos no convencionales" written in collaboration with the International Pneumoconiosis Observatory. Dr. Zamora-Saá has successfully secured research funding from the Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile (CODELCO) and DUOC UC. She is currently leading a research project funded by DUOC UC’s Directorate of Applied Research, focused on identifying ergonomic and psychosocial risk factors associated with musculoskeletal disorders among clinical cleaning personnel.
