About
Meiju Keinänen (PhD, Educ.) is an appreciated Research Group Leader (Practice-Based Pedagogy) and Principal Lecturer at Turku University of Applied Sciences in Finland.
She has specialized in researching and developing learning and pedagogical practices in higher education. Keinänen has been actively and successfully part of RDI work of a barometer to measure students’ innovation competences at national and international levels. Her pioneer dissertation research focused on identifying, assessing and developing students’ innovation competences in different higher educational learning contexts.
Additionally, Keinänen has played a key-role in developing, coordinating and implementing of multidisciplinary project-based curriculum and innovative learning environments and concepts at the Faculty of Engineering and Business. Moreover, she has been one of the responsible persons in developing and implementing pedagogical strategy and pedagogical staff trainings at Turku UAS.
Currently, Keinänen is leading the multidisciplinary research group, called Practice-based Pedagogy. The research group aims are to:
- develop new methods and models in higher education,
- produce research-based knowledge and understanding for learning, teaching and high-quality education, to support for pedagogical leadership and decision-making,
- support the pedagogical well-being of students and teachers, as well as competence development and adaptation to changing professions.
Keinänen works also actively in national and international networks. For example, she is a co-lead of CARPE (Consortium on Applied Research and Professional Education) Special Interests Groups of Pedagogy, Learning and Innovation, member of advisory committee of CITL (Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning) and PraBa (The Finnish Society for Practice Based Inquiry), and technical programme committee of ISATE (International Symposium on Advances in Technology Education).
