MOHAMMED FAISAL AMADU
About
Mohammed Faisal Amadu is a Development Communication, Media and Governance expert with over 10 years of combined experience as a lecturer, communication consultant and development researcher. He holds a PhD in Media and Communication Studies from the African Media Centre (AfMC) of the Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI) at the University of Westminster, London-UK, where he explored the nexus between community radio and local community participation in decentralised local governance based on a qualitative case study. His Ph.D. research addressed key empirical gaps in development communication and media theories on how, and why, poor local community participation and weaknesses in local accountability in decentralised reforms are linked to an inadequate flow of communication and the lack of legitimate mechanisms with which to amplify the voices of ordinary members of the community. His PhD also explored the question of how local radio is addressing the failure of existing communication systems in local government structures to facilitate active citizen-government dialogue and synergy that strengthens the articulation of community voices and enhances the responsiveness of local government policies and initiatives in local community development. Dr. Amadu holds a full-time position as a Lecturer at the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University for Development Studies. He first joined the UDS as Senior Research Assistant in 2013. His expertise spans the fields of communication, media, decentralised governance and development studies. He is a Publon certified reviewer and reviews for some reputable journals. He has widely collaboratively consulted for multilateral corporations and NGOs in Ghana including USAID, Right to Play International, Market Development for Northern Ghana (MADE) and the African Development Organisation for Migration (AfDOM). He has written extensively and published in reputable academic peer review journals including the Journal of African Journalism Studies. He previously worked with Radio Ultimate, a University campus radio in Wa.
