Niamh Moloney

About

Niamh Moloney gained her Physiotherapy degree at University College Dublin in 1998, a Masters in Manipulative Therapy from Curtin University, Perth in 2003 and she completed her PhD in 2012 (University College Dublin), which focused on pain and sensory profiles in neck and arm pain conditions. She was awarded the title of Specialist (Musculoskeletal) Physiotherapist by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists in 2018. She is currently an Associate Professor (Physiotherapy) in the School of Allied Health, Curtin University and Head of Program (Physiotherapy). She held previous appointments at the University of Auckland (Associate Professor & Program Lead) Macquarie University and the University of Sydney. Her research focuses primarily on pain and sensory assessment in musculoskeletal conditions with the aim of improving clinical assessment and treatment. She has a growing interest in implementation of multi-dimensional assessments and psychologically informed physiotherapy in primary care settings particularly for acute/sub-acute conditions. She has also recently expanded her research to include pain following breast cancer treatment. She has lead or contributed to projects successful in obtaining >$1M in research funding and has published over 75 peer-reviewed journal articles including several high impact journals, such as Pain, Pain Physician, Clinical Journal of Pain and Manual Therapy. She regularly presents her research at National and International Conferences. She remains a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists, Australian Pain Society and the International Association for the Study of Pain.
