About

My research focuses on functional and clinical outcomes following concussion (mild traumatic brain injury) and moderate TBI with a view to informing best practice post-injury management. To date my research has investigated function of the musculoskeletal, sensorimotor, and autonomic regulatory systems following mild to moderate traumatic brain injury in the context of clinical recovery and identified evidence of impairment even among those who are reportedly asymptomatic. I am also interested in exploring the relationship between quantifiable impairment across these systems following concussion or more severe TBI and functional neuroimaging biomarkers. Results from this research will better inform determination of clinical recovery as well as post injury management Current projects investigate: o Identification of screening tools for use acutely post-concussion to inform early and effective management. o Mechanisms underlying the clinical presentation of individuals with persistent post-concussion symptoms. o Influence of speed of head motion on measurement of the vestibulo-ocular reflex in health adults and post-concussion. o The effect of exercise on heart rate variability following mild to moderate traumatic brain injury. o Development of a valid measure of neuromuscular endurance of the cervical spine flexor muscle synergy. I also contribute to research projects in the areas of non-pharmacological management, as well as long-term outcomes post-concussion.
