Pedro Namorado Borges
About
Pedro Namorado Borges is an architect and a researcher at the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL), Centre for Socioeconomic and Territorial Studies [PT], and the University of Coimbra, Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies (CEIS20), and a visiting researcher (2022) at UCBerkeley [US]. He is currently preparing a Ph.D on regional planning, urbanism and architecture about the impacts of public housing policies in rural areas funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and was awarded a grant by the Luso-American Foundation for Development (FLAD) to research at UCBerkeley. He seeks the redefinition on what is considered familiar, as a referential system of human evolution, through the study of the built environment as the result of a set of relationships between its several actors such as architects, engineers, builders, state agencies, public policies and the population. He graduated in Architecture (2007) from the FAULisbon [PT], where he also concluded the Master in Architecture (2019) about Vítor Figueiredo discourse and social housing projects, as a main reference in the subject. During this period he was awarded several grants as a visiting student (2005) in TUBerlin [DE], a research student (2007) in UTokyo [JP] where he participated in an international joint workshop (2007) with UTongji [CN] in Shanghai. After a period (2007-2012) dedicated mainly to the modernisation of public education buildings in architectural practices, he concluded a post-graduation on Regional Planning, Urbanism and Architecture (2013) in ISCTE-IULisboa [PT]. He coordinated, with Vanda Maldonado, the book “Vítor Figueiredo: Projects and Works of Social Housing 1960-1979” (Ed. Circo de Ideias: 2015). He participated as a researcher in the projects: "Housing. One Hundred Years of Public Policies in Portugal 1918-2018" (2017-2018); "The Life in Marechal Carmona Neighbourhood: A Demographic and Social Portrait 2018" (2018); "ATLAS of School Architecture in Portugal - Education, Heritage and Challenges" (2018-2019). He develops a continuous independent architectural practice.
