Tiago Pinto da Costa is an architect born in Porto, Portugal. He is a Doctor of Architecture, degree earned at University Lusiada of Porto, that has its architecture roots in the “Porto School of Architecture” - the internationally recognized architecture teaching theory. As an European registered and chartered architect within ARB (Architects Registration Board, UK) and RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects, UK) but also as a fellow of RSA (Royal Society of Arts, UK), he has developed experience in different fields of architecture and related activities, such as exhibition design, design competitions, managing design projects and the renovating and remodeling of existing buildings. The way he participates in architectural projects is also diverse, ranging from individual initiatives, to partnerships or collaborations, and within larger teams for major competitions and projects. Apart from teaching, he is currently designing alongside Bio-Architecture Formosana on various projects, having had one of these projects winning the Huashan 2.0 Architectural Design Competition for a Cultural Building in Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei, Taiwan. Several master architects have influenced his output. They include Álvaro Siza in Portugal, Spain’s Alberto Campo Baeza, England's John Pawson, Switzerland’s Peter Zumthor and the Japanese architect Shinichi Ogawa. Tiago sees Architecture not only as a means to fulfilling the needs of a specific program brief but to produce work in harmony with the surrounding environment, in order to achieve the essence of architecture through the materiality of a timeless building. His research is focused on the crossroads between the projection of built/unbuilt-real/fictional environments in Architecture/Film, on topological interlocking of concrete elements and on Space Architecture.
