Cécile Lebrand

About

I obtained first a degree in Pharmacy at the University Paris XI (France, 1994). It was followed by a PhD in developmental neuroscience at the Hospital of Salpêtrière in Paris (1999). This training was completed, from 1999 to 2004, by successive postdoctoral positions at the University of Geneva (CH), MIT (USA) and Cambridge University (UK) where I was trained in biochemistry, cell biology and cell imaging applied to different experimental models. From 2004 to 2011, I was appointed at the the Department of Fundamental Neuroscience at University of Lausanne (UNIL), as a junior group leader to develop an project on axonal guidance of cortical inter-hemispheric connections. From 2011 to 2014, I joined EPFL (Switzerland) working first as the program manager of the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) Robotics and then as a senior scientist at ISREC working on breast cancer and lung metastasis formation. Since 2012, I have continued to work in parallel as a scientific collaborator at UNIL on a research project aiming to better understand the mechanisms of glia proliferation/specification in embryos and their function during axonal outgrowth and vascular development. These results extended to human embryonic development may provide new understanding of the mechanisms underlying various human neuropathologies such as commissures agenesis, perinatal stroke and neonatal encephalopathy.
