Asst. Prof Jayson L. De Vera, PhD is an experienced educator, researcher, and academic leader dedicated to advancing science education and pedagogy in the Philippines and beyond. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Science Education in the Faculty of Science, Technology, and Mathematics at the Philippine Normal University (PNU). He holds the roles of Managing Editor for the Journal of Education and Learning Advancement (JELA) and LUKAD: An Online Journal of Pedagogy at PNU Manila and PNU South Luzon respectively. Asst. Prof De Vera's academic journey is marked by a commitment to excellence. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Science Education from PNU, with a focus on aligning graduate science education curricula with professional teaching standards in the Philippines. Prior to this, he earned his Master of Arts in Physics from Bulacan State University and his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education: Physical Science from the same institution. Dr De Vera has been a resource person in pedagogy, research, and science education in local, national and international educational institutions and agencies. He received and co-authored various research projects funded locally and internationally. The following sources provide funding for some of the projects: (1) Project-Based Research Grant Proposal (PBRG) of Philippine Normal University; two of these focus on gender equality, diversity and social inclusion (GEDSI) and Exploring Future STEM Competencies of Science Teachers in the Philippines; (2) A case study on technology and education in the Philippines under UNESCO; (3) the development of a framework for integrating the key competencies of various International Large-Scale Assessment (ILSA) frameworks into the program design of pre-service teacher education programs; (4) June or August: Which school year calendar opening is more conducive to learning? under Department Education; (5) and Localization and Mismatched, funded by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS). With a strong foundation in education, Dr De Vera has contributed significantly to research and scholarship in his field. He has published numerous articles in reputable journals, addressing topics ranging from instructional planning and design to comparative studies of educational practices. His research interests encompass science education policies, curriculum development, sustainable environmental management, and leadership in education. Dr De Vera's expertise extends beyond research and academia. He has actively engaged in professional activities and services, including speaking engagements, workshops, and seminars both locally and internationally. As a recognized resource speaker, he has shared his insights on various aspects of education, technology integration, and pedagogical resilience. Additionally, he has served as a reviewer for academic publications, a panelist for research defenses, and a member of professional organizations such as the National Research Council of the Philippines and the International Organization of Educators and Researchers, Inc. (IOER). Throughout his career, Dr De Vera has held teaching positions at various educational institutions, including Manila Central University, the Philippine International School in Qatar, and DepEd schools in the Philippines. He has taught a wide range of courses, from junior high school science to tertiary-level professional education subjects, consistently demonstrating a passion for empowering students and educators alike. In recognition of his contributions to education and research, Dr De Vera has received several awards and recognitions, including certificates of recognition for outstanding leadership, innovative teaching, and research excellence.
