Associate Professor of Educational Technology in the Institute of Education at University of Minho, Portugal. His academic qualifications include a graduation in Visual Literacy (1991), a Master in Educational Technology (2002), a PhD in Educational Technology (2009), and a Postdoc in Educational Technology (2019). José is an experienced lecturer and researcher, particularly in online methodologies, as his Curriculum Vitæ can confirm. He received his PhD with a thesis about Online Education. He designed, developed and implemented a virtual learning environment (VLE) with educational resources to support a Flipped Approach to Online Teaching and Learning, a form of blended learning. Teaching expertise relates to exploring innovative pedagogical practices focusing on active methodologies, hybrid learning models and digital technologies. Research interests involve the design of innovative pedagogy with new technologies to enhance teaching and learning processes. José wants to understand the opportunities to promote in-service teachers’ professional development through the combination of three important dimensions: pedagogy-technology-flexible learning spaces. José has been involved as a leader (WP, Country, and/or Project Coordinator, etc.) in several European research projects financed by Erasmus Plus, FP7, Grundvig, Leonardo Da Vinci, Innovation Programme. José is the author or co-author of more than 150 peer-reviewed papers on technology integration in education (face-to-face or online). Researcher at Research Centre on Education (CIEd). Researcher at Centro ALGORITMI, a research unit of the School of Engineering, University of Minho, Campus of Azurém, Portugal. Centro ALGORITMI develops R&D activity in Information and Communications Technology and Electronics (ICT&E) (cf. algoritmi.uminho.pt). At ALGORITMI José is a member of the Computer Communications and Pervasive Media (CCPM) R&D Line, developing his research in the engageLab R&D Group. Member of Centre IDEA-UMinho – Centre for the Innovation and Development of Teaching and Learning at the University of Minho. The Centre IDEA-UMinho aims at supporting teachers in promoting student learning. With the collaboration of the academy, it seeks to stimulate innovation in teaching and learning in multiple contexts, in and outside the classroom. The Centre is coordinated by a multidisciplinary team and its creation is aligned with similar structures from reference HE institutions worldwide.
