About
Juliet Vivienne Travlos (nee Funke) is a University of Cape Town BSc (Hrs) Physiotherapy graduate (1998). Vivienne gained experience across community paediatric and acute care cardiorespiratory practice in South Africa and the United Kingdom before settling in Australia. She completed her MSc at Southampton University in 2003, exploring manual handling issues in adolescents with cerebral palsy GMFCS IV. Her PhD (2020) explored health and wellbeing in adolescents with neuromuscular disorders navigating transition to adulthood and uptake of mechanical ventilation and airway clearance adjuncts. An energetic, disciplined professional with twenty-six years of international clinical, academic and research experience as a Physiotherapist. An adaptable, enthusiastic individual who consistently works to the highest standards both autonomously and as part of a team. Able to communicate openly, sensitively and sincerely with individuals of all ages and abilities. I am passionate about respiratory care in complex, neurodegenerative disability, where individualised, specific and best practice care utilising physical activity, manual and mechanical adjuncts can be life-sustaining. My clinical and research experience spans the community and acute care sector. I have endeavoured to grow expertise in the provision of best practice respiratory care in the community. I have a keen interest in preventative care to optimise health and wellbeing and minimise hospital admission. Throughout my career, I have conducted research studies evaluating my work, developed and supervised new studies with clinicians and research students. I am able to disseminate my work through publication (five to date) and presentation at national (five) and international (four) conferences. My invited lectures reflect my passion for advocacy and evidence based information sharing that addresses and seeks solutions to current health issues. Professional contributions include involvement in special interest groups, scientific committees developing best practice guidelines and policies, competency standards, training and professional support of Allied Health Professionals in partnership with families and support groups.
