About
I am a Fellow of the University of Cincinnati's Center for Criminal Justice Research and currently serve as a Research and Evaluation Scientist at the Center for Rural Health Improvement, as well as an Assistant Professor in the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. At the University of South Dakota, I support program evaluation and implementation science efforts that aim to improve access to quality healthcare and justice services in rural communities. My work emphasizes populations affected by mental health and substance use challenges. At the Center for Criminal Justice Research, I conduct independent studies on assessment tools used in the justice system, including juvenile risk assessments, substance misuse measures, and motivation-for-treatment scales. My research also focuses on justice system workforce development, particularly career training and retention. I apply my expertise in psychometrics and scale development to monitor trainee progress and identify areas for intervention. In addition to research, I provide technical assistance for the development and implementation of court-based programs and policies, such as treatment courts, domestic violence courts, risk assessment tools, and broader justice system interventions. I have led evaluation research across the corrections, judicial, and social service sectors in 15 states: Alabama, California, Colorado, Kentucky, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, South Dakota, Texas, and Virginia.
